Khao San Road

Khao San Road is considered one of the best Thai places in Toronto.
I thought the hype might have died down and I was hoping that I wouldn't have to line up on a Tuesday night, but there was still a bit of a wait.
Gra Bong
Grated and fried squash fritters with wild ginger, lemongrass and red curry
We ordered this based on a recommendation from my coworker and wow - was it ever good!
The savoury squash fritters were lightly battered and fried to a crisp in a circular plate shape (there were 5 of them) and the fragrant sauce provided a nice balance to the fritters. Definitely get this!

Top: Khao Soi
Bottom: Chef's Special Pad Thai (Sam Roas)
Egg noodles in a coconut milk enriched curry, garnished with crispy noodles, green onion, coriander and lime
It was medium spicy (after about 5 spoonfuls I definitely felt the spiciness kick in). The Thai curry had really rich and aromatic flavours with some sweetness from the coconut milk and spicy kick from the curry. The combination of the crispy noodles and the soggy egg noodles in the curry was a nice contrast.

Chef's Special Pad Thai (Sam Roas)
Street style Pad Thai with sweet, sour and savoury flavours topped with home-roasted peanuts, dried chili and lime juice.
This is what a pad thai should taste like! After some unsatisfactory experiences with pad thai (Spring Rolls & Salad King), I was happy with this appetizing pad thai. It was tangy and tasty.

Overall: Khao San Road lives up to its reputation as one of the best Thai restaurants in Toronto. It's no wonder there's always a lineup here even though the service is fast.
